The Type 2 T1, also known as the Split Screen or Splitty, is the first generation of the Volkswagen Transporter series. It was produced from 1950 to 1967. The T1 featured a split front windshield, hence its nickname, and a rounded body shape. It had a rear engine layout and came in various body styles such as vans, microbuses, and pickups.

The T1 was instrumental in establishing Volkswagen's reputation as a manufacturer of practical and reliable commercial vehicles. It gained popularity worldwide and became an iconic symbol of the 1960s counterculture movement. The T1 is often associated with the hippie culture, surf trips, and adventurous road trips.

Mechanically, the T1 initially featured an air-cooled, rear-mounted four-cylinder engine, which evolved over the years to offer improved power and performance. It had rear-wheel drive and manual transmission.

The T1's design, charm, and historical significance have made it highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts. Restored and well-maintained T1 models are considered classic vehicles, and their values have increased over time. They are appreciated for their nostalgic appeal, vintage aesthetics, and their ability to evoke a sense of adventure and freedom.
